I was in Atlantic City this weekend for my brother-in-laws bachelor party and the weekend started off with a 6 hour deep sea fishing trip. To be honest, I didn't think we'd head out with tropical storm Danny on it's way, and when it was decided that we were indeed going to venture out, I was a bit nervous. I've never gotten sea-sick before, but this would have been the perfect time. Of course I stocked up on Dramamine the day before, and popped a few pills before we left. Better safe than sorry.
It was rainy and windy as we pushed off from the dock on the 65' Captain Collet just after 7am and the swells in the inlet on the way out to the Atlantic were just massive. The rain got harder and harder the farther off-shore we went and the boat was rocking and rolling like nothing I've seen before. A couple of the guys were immediately "chumming the water" as the saying goes. The captain assured us that the open ocean would be a bit more calm...I don't think it really was. Walking around on the boat was near impossible and you had to hold onto something at all time. One guy made a mistake climbing down a ladder and missed the last three steps...he hit the deck hard!
Once the fishing commenced I was on fire...I'd drop my line and instantly they were biting. I couldn't reel them up fast enough. Maybe it was because I was using the old New Bedford Polish fisherman trick of a little kielbasa on the line as bait, but I was unstoppable. Ended up catching the biggest sea bass and the biggest bluefish on the entire boat.
First time deep sea fishing was a success...when do we go again guys?
