This weekend we started the massive project of painting our entire downstairs. It's all essentially one space so it's all going from the bright yellow to a nice, neutral khaki. Can't wait to actually get it up on the walls. We [meaning Patrick and I] spent most of the weekend doing prep work and finally got the ceiling done late yesterday afternoon. It looks like we'll only need one coat there, so we're excited about that! We went with a soft white called Creamy for the ceiling and we'll use it on the trim as well. It should look really sharp with the khaki...much better than the bright white that is currently there.
I also hung the new kitchen ceiling fan and it looks great! We'll pick up the job with the walls later this week...
Of course no project with us is quick and dirty. As we were prepping the walls of the stairwell we started to investigate the carpeting that was attached over the trim. It's always bothered me and we weren't sure why it was there...so we pulled a little carpet back to have a look. Turns out the trim was in pretty good shape so we ended up pulling it all out. Now the carpeting looks a bit funny since it stops short of the walls on all the stairs, but we'll replace that sometime in the next year anyway...so we'll only have to live with that for a little while. As and added bonus, it'll make painting that trim really easy. I did have to replace the entire top piece of quarter round since the carpet staples pretty much destroyed what was there...but for $35 worth of new trim it was well worth it.
Okay..the next time you see these rooms they should be all done and hopefully with things on the walls, coverings on the windows, and an area rug in the entry way and living room!
Looks like an "Extreme Makeover..." Holmes on Homes won't be in on this one..." Uncle Tom
