Okay...one final bonus installement in our recap of the Poland and Czech Republic 2011 trip.
Passing through London Heathrow's Terminal 5 is always a treat. Built and opened by British Airways in 2008 it handles 35million people annually...all on BA flights of course. This is our second time passing through in the past few years and I'm always amazed at the place. It's the largest freestanding structure in the UK, cost over $4billion Pounds, and took 19 years from conception to completion!
The structure inside is breathtaking... [well, it is for those of us who find things like that breathtaking]
Another reason for my adoration of Terminal 5 is that because it contains a Wagamama restaurant! [of course there are plenty of other restaurants and shops in here, but this just happens to be our favorite] They don't have those here in Philly so we've got to eat here whenever we get the chance. Sure it was about 10am, Prague local time, when we were sitting down to eat lunch...but that didn't really matter. It was Wagamama, you eat that any time of the day! I ordered my favorite...the Yaki Soba!
We only had about a 3hr stop here at Terminal 5 and after going through security and getting a bite to eat it was time to head to the gate.
Even with the size of Terminal 5, and with the B and C buildings they've added, there still aren't enough gates for the amount of flights that go in and out of here, so sometimes you need to take a bus out to the plane on the tarmac. I shot this little bit of HD footage as we rolled along. You can see that most of the planes out there are big boys. Lots of 747s, and 777s.
Here's our bus...time to head out.
You could fit two grown men standing on top of eachother inside this engine. You don't realize just how big they are!
Next stop...Philadelphia.
