Kel's mom spent about 5 days camped out in the "princess room" last week working on curtains for our dining room. You should have seen the amount of gear she moved in for this operation. Several types of sewing machines, rulers, tables, and bins upon bins of other things.
We could have just gotten some standard curtains at the store, but you know us. We had to go custom, and since Kel's mom was willing to make them we were thrilled. Picking out the fabric took forever, but we're happy with what we finally selected...you'll see it below.
My job for the project was to get the massive 120" long rod we got at Pottery Barn mounted on the wall and ready to receive the curtains once they were done. It had to go up as one unit, so it took a bit of coordination beforehand.
We got the bar up right away and Deb was then able to get started with taking measurements. The whole process took her a bit longer than a think she expected, but she wanted to make sure they came out perfect. Which they did!
Here's Kel haning up a test sample, to see how the folds would hang, her and Deb laying out all the fabric, and Deb starting the sewing...
I think the final product turned out really good and makes the room feel so much warmer. A big thanks to Deb for all the hard work!!! [now she just needs to do the Roman shades for the living room....wink, wink!]
While we were working on these curtains we decided to pull a number of other things together as well. Did you notice those new mirrors above the china cabinet?
I think we bought and tried 3 different mirrors in this spot before settling on these. They're from Crate and Barrell, our go to place recently.
We had been saying for a while that we wanted to get a clock that we could mount and see from both the dining room and the living room....mission accomplished. We got this one from a place called Newgate in jolly old London. We played around with where to mount it for a bit and decided to center it on the overall dimension of the wall. I really like how it sticks out proud of the wall so much, makes it really stand out.
And lastly...we've finally framed a print of Vernazza that we had purchased back in Italy during our 2009 trip. It's hung on the wall that bridges between the kitchen and the dining room. My buddy Kevin [he's not really my "buddy", but we have the same name, so that's good enough for me] over at Framers Workroom does such and amazing job and helped us pick out a frame that works well with the colors in the artwork.
So...things are finally coming together...
