This past Labor Day Weekend we had a great visit here with Kristin and Ryan who flew down from NH.
We picked them up from the airport and came back to the house for lunch [brie, honey mustard and apple sandwiches] and to catch up for a while before heading out to see the area and walk around a bit.
For dinner Kel and I cooked up a little feast. Marinated pork with asparagus and scalloped potatoes. Soooo tasty!
After dinner we just relaxed, enjoyed a few drinks, and threw a DVD on the tube. Nothing too crazy.
Sunday morning we got the day off on the right track with some tasty waffles courtesy of yours truly!
We decided to finally check out the Philadelphia Museum of Art since Kel and I haven't been there yet. [Kel thinks the last time she was there must have been in 5th grade!] Turns out that the first Sunday of each month are "pay what you wish day". How great is that? We decided to do a 2 for 1 special and just payed $16 instead of the regular $32. I asked the girl at the desk and she said some people even just pay a penny!
The museum was really great and we enjoyed walking around for a few hours...
...I'll never understand modern art! A bike wheel stuck to a bar stool? or an oversized Brillo pad box? Those are art?
After our tour of the museum we were getting hungry so we made our way over to Reading Terminal Market for some roast pork sangwiches at Dinic's! Ohhhh the goodness.
I meant to take a photo of the sandwiches, but we scarfed them down before I even had a chance!
We came back to the house for a while and the girls set out to do some shopping while Ryan and I just chilled and relaxed. We ended up having a late dinner at a great spot called Bistro di Marino. We had been once before and as soon as we told Kristin about the famous gnocchi, she was hooked! It's another BYO place too...which makes it even better.
The girls decided to get all dressed up too!
Take a look at some of these dishes we had...so tasty. And the gnocchi is really amazing. So light compared to what I've had at other restaurants.
On Sunday morning we met one of Kelly and Kristin's college girlfriends, Lauren, for brunch before we dropped them off at the airport.
All in all a great weekend and we really enjoyed catching up with Kristin and Ryan!
