We finally got her to enjoy a stroller ride for ice cream the other night. Well who knows if she "enjoyed" it, but she didn't scream like someone was trying to kill her. That's a "win" in my book! She still despises the car...so we're going to have to continue working on that!
Lot's and lot's and lot's of out of town visitors for Miss J this past weekend. Her soon-to-be Godparents, Thomas and Karen, and their crew, drove up from DC for the day, and Jo Jo and Jill stopped for the night on their way back from a week in Cape May. Needless to say, we had a full house on Saturday, and it was kinda crazy, but it was a lot of fun introducing #BabyJ to all of them!
A ton of photos with this post...you know the drill, click to enlarge!
Pretty much lots of just hanging around and playing in the back yard with the kiddos while everyone took turns holding J.
Not sure what Miss J was doing that caused Karen and Thomas to make those faces!!!
How about Jo Jo?....he's a natural!
William loved the Legos...as always. He always asks me if he can play with them too...so polite!
I really like this photo of the 3 of us!
Thomas and Karen [read: Karen] also brought a huge feast of food. Lasagna, meatballs, sausage, salad, bread...the whole 9 yards! It was awesomely good!!! [they also got a great gift for J's room, but i'll show you that in a later post!]
I picked up a delicious chocolate cake to help celebrate Karen's birthday which was the following day. Anna Kate helped her with the hard part.
There you have it...a bunch of photos from a great day with some of our best friends. The end.
I had to spend a most of my day at the office...but we got to hang out a lot this afternoon! And we had an awesome time yesterday with some of our great friends who visited from all different parts of the country! More on that later in the week. In the meantime...enjoy your big day #BabyJ!
Fun Fact: We've [read: I] have taken 1,351 photos of Miss J thus far...or an average of about 43 each day. Yikes!
I realized that I've been posting lots and lots of photos of Miss J in the past weeks but I haven't really let you all know how it's going so far. Now that she's 4 weeks old today [how the time flies!], I figured I'd pass along a little update. [and of course, I'll give you some new photos too. I didn't buy that fancy new lens for nothing!] You know the drill...click on any photo to make it larger.
Well...so far, so good I'd say. Heck, I joked with the guys at the office that we didn't drop her off at a Fire or Police station during the first week, so that's gotta be a feather in our cap, right? All kidding aside though, we don't even rememeber what it was like before she was here. In 4 short [somtimes long!] weeks, she has changed our lives forever...and it's pretty darn great!
I'd say we're finally starting to get into as much of a routine as we can. Don't get me wrong, we're still in "survival mode", we're just getting more and more used ot it! J eats like clockwork, every 2-2.5 hrs. You can set your watch to it. And when she wakes up hungry...she needs to be fed ASAP, or she lets you know about it! She's definitely a chow-hound becuase she's been putting on tons of weight and that makes the docs happy, us too! After a first few weeks that were less than ideal, Kelly is really getting into a grove with the nursing and it's become a lot easier for both of them.
Like any newborn, she sleeps, eats, and poops. That's pretty much it. With her eating every 2.5 hours it makes the nights a bit challenging, but Kelly does a great job of letting me get as much sleep as possible since I need to get up and be functional at work the next day. I still do get up and help with a few diapers and things like that, so there have been a few days when I needed toothpicks to hold my eyelids open come 3 in the afternoon! I guess it comes with the turf though.
She loves to be outside, so we take her out on the porch rockers all the time. Look at all that hair on the back of her head!
And here she is at by far her most favorite spot on the entire face of our good planet...fast asleep on Kelly's chest after a big meal. Life is good!
Over the weekend we took a few photos that we needed to send out to folks. One for the next Xaverian Brothers HS newsletter, and one for the Team Xaverian PMC guys. How great does she look in that onesie? She's going to be more than ready to cheer on Team Xaverian in 2013 along the roads of Massachusetts!!!
It's really cool to see her in the PMC shirt...thanks so much for sending this great gift Greg!
I really like this photo Kelly snapped of the two of us. I'm beat tired, haven't shaved in a few days, but J. looks so great! Look at those little toes!
She has spent a decent amount of time down on the "activity mat" and is really starting to enjoy play time...even if it's only in 10 minute increments! She's starting to follow a few toys around with her eyes when you pass them in front of her now.
She's starting to get more and more comfortable in her swing too...so that's a good option when we want to put her down for a bit. She's still not loving the car/car seat like every other kid on the planet and screams her little head off every time we're in it, but hopefully that'll change. She also despises the stroller...like the loudest screams you've ever heard every time we've tried to take a walk. We're going to give it a short break and then just keep trying until she finally likes it. She's got to come around, right?
We've been out and about a good deal. A few dinners, brunch one weekend, and of course 3 trips already to Babies R' Us and Buy Buy Baby already!
I told Kelly a long time ago that I was never going to wear one of these funny contraptions...but as you can see in the photo below, I must have lost that battle! They are pretty comfortable though and it makes carrying Miss J around while running errands that much easier. Here we are at a quick visit to Nordstroms!
Here's a shot of J in her car seat, in a shopping cart. How small does she look? Photo taken at the opposite end of the shopping spectrum...Walmart!
Here she is just chilling at the local Starbucks as Kelly and I re-caffienate! We were out running a few errands and it was nice to just sit down and enjoy a coffee and relax for a few minutes while she rested her eyes.
I made Kelly take this shot of us in front of the price checker at the baby store:
Last week on the Travel Channel, host Adam Richman did a special that paired the countries great sandwiches against each other in a college basketball style bracket to determine which sandwich would earn the title of "Best Sandwich". If you watched the show you know that a Philly legend, The Roast Pork, not a cheesesteak, took home the crown! Dinics in Reading Terminal Market is the location they used for the show, but luckily for us there's one on our side of the Delaware river too!
I can't tell you the last time we had one...so we made sure to stop by this past weekend to remind our tastebuds of just how good they are!
So juicy and tasty!
Next time you visit make sure we take you over for one!
I know I've been promising photos of Miss J's accommodations for some time now...so without further adieu, here you go.
We opted to go with a basic grey wall color and then accent it with pops of color here and there. [and of course we had to get a custom color since none of the standard greys worked for us. Look up "Nowak Grey" at Sherwin Williams next time you're there!
I should also mention that our goal was to do this entire room as inexpensively as possible. We got furniture that would last for a few kids and then we could sell it/give it away once we were done and invest in some nicer kids furniture. At the bottom of the post I'll do a quick recap of where everything is from. As you'll see...we got basic stuff and then tried to dress it up as much as possible. Example; the dresser and the crib! I don't have an actual tally on everything, but I'd say this is one of the cheaper nurseries you'll find on the world wide internet!
I should back up a step and mention that before we painted the walls of the room, we painted the closet a bright white and added a nice custom fabricated shelving unit from The Container Store. We got it at the big annual sale they do, so we saved a ton, and this thing sure beats the Home Depot special the previous owners had in there! You can see half of it in the photo below...and yep, it's already filled up with clothes.
Dresser/Changing table with little elephants marching along...
Handmade rug and accent ribbons on the crib [which will be removed once she can get her little hands down there and tug on them!]
Mobile above the crib:
Hair accessories board:
Yes, that rocker is indeed as comfy as it looks!
Paint: Sherwin Williams Nowak Grey; Semi-Gloss
Crib: Target with a mattress from Buy Buy Baby and linens fro Pottery Barn
Hair Accessories Board: Idea from Etsy, built by yours truly!
I think that about covers all of the gear in her room. I'd be remiss if I didn't give special thanks to the various folks who helped finance some of the furniture purchases...you guys know who you are and we really, really, really, really appreciate it!
