Instead of heading to visit Nick and Jules for New Years Eve this year we had to push until this past weekend since J was sick as a dog that weekend. Tis the story when a baby is around...all plans are soft until day of!
We were a little leery of a 2.75hr car ride each way...but Miss J did much better than our last road trip up to Boston! So it wasn't too bad at all. Our next road-trip is up to Burlington, VT...that's 7.5 hours...should be interesting to say the least!
Since we have a 6 and-a-half month old who needs to be under the covers by 7:30pm we're now forced to eat dinner with blue-hairs at 5pm if we want to go out! We hit up a great, great place a few towns over call Dish. The food was fantastic, but the best part was the owner, Eileen. She grabbed J before we could even get inside the door and pretty much held her the entire time. She'd bring her back to us for a bit when it got a little busy, but since it was so early, and they only had a handful of tables, she wasn't running around too much. At one point we looked around and didnt even know where she was...turns out J was back in the kitchen helping the cooks. She even went around to the the other tables and helped refill water glasses and was introduced to everyone who came in the door. It was really funny, and at the same time, so nice to enjoy a few quiet moments with Nick and Jules. We couldn't thank Eileen enough but she insisted the pleasure was all hers. Sounds like she's really ready for some grandkids of her own!
After dinner we fed Miss J and put her down for night. It was so much fun catching up over a few bottles of wine, chapagne, and even some scotch! [thanks Nick!] We just pretended it was December 31st and that the ball would be dropping in a few hours! We also made sure we still took our annual photo:
We snapped a bunch of other funny ones too...
Towards the later stages of the night/early the next morning, someone got the idea that we should re-create the famous Queen album cover. So we did. Took us about 25 minutes to get it perfect...but I think the end result was pretty good!
Here are the two shots, side by side:
What a great weekend and we can't wait to see them again very soon!
As I eluded to last week, we had another wonderful evening on Valentine's Day. We're all about tradition over here and for the past 5 or so years we've done a couple of lobsters and steamers to celebrate...and this year was not going to be any different. We waited unitl J hit the rack for the night and then started whipping up the feast.
And what a feast it was....2.25lbs lobsters, 24 littlenecks, some garlic mashies, and a bottle of Peju. Oh man...
