Even though we were only having a small affair on Thanksgiving that still meant we had to get things prepped the night before.
First up for me was making a tasty butter-Creole injection for the bird that would be deep fried the next day. Super simple to make, and it really made the bird taste delicious!
How about that needle? Yeah, we're not joking around!
Up next was helping Kelly to get some pumpkin pies made...of course J wanted to lend a hand too! She was perched on her favorite spot on the counter.
Had to break out the Polish vodka too! Can't beat a tasty tatanka: Zubrowka and apple juice.
On Thanksgiving morn J and I got started by making some waffles for breakfast. What a great helper!
After breakfast we hung around the house for a bit before the craziness of getting dinner ready began. I did sneak in a quick final 5k run to prep up for the big turkey trot on Saturday...and to pre-burn some of the calories I'd surely be eating!
How great is this photo that Kelly snapped?
Eventually it was time to get down to business!
The 3 ladies working hard! (well, soon to be 4 ladies!)
Soon enough it was time to fry the bird...
Down she goes! This part is always a crowd favorite!
33 minutes later, the bird was golden brown and ready to be carved!
And check out this feast! That's a lot of food for 4 people...but I'm more than okay with left-overs!
Turkey, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole, scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole, and some pecan rolls.
How great does this plate look?
And don't worry, we waited about 2hrs before we could even think about these desserts!
And you better believe we had to end the day with some more play time!
A Happy Thanksgiving to you all! Hopefully you got to enjoy some relaxation with the family and some good food. Speaking of food...I think it's time to whip up a little gobbler snack for myself!
