I look forward to the first weekend of every August and the 200 mile cycling adventure across Massachusetts known as the Pan Mass Challenge. However, with the birth of our second daughter last Spring I had to take 2014 off from the PMC.
I vowed to get back in the saddle in 2015 and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. This year will mark my 8th time riding the PMC. I know I won’t have a lot of time to train with two very little ones running around the house, so I’m planning to do one of the shorter distances, just 50 miles. Having done the 200-miler many times before I know how much training is required to be ready to tackle the hills of western Mass and the wind-swept roads of Cape Cod…maybe next year!
Once again I'll be riding as a member of Team Xaverian. We are a group of men, women and students who are alumni, parents of students, and friends of Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA. We've once more earmarked our fundraising dollars to be given to a brain tumor research and survivors group at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston that was started by an alum of the school.
As a cancer survivor myself, who was treated at Dana Farber, I know firsthand how important these dollars are to the critical work they do each day. Being cancer free for almost 19 years now is a direct result of the top notch treatment and care I received there. I’ve set myself an ambitious goal of raising $10,000 this year as a way to give back to the place that has given me so much.
Please give whatever you can and know that each dollar helps. Every single penny of that dollar will go directly to research and care at the Dana Farber. Not too many charities can make that claim! Dana Farber is on the cutting edge of so many research and treatment programs and this is due in large part due to the millions of dollars the PMC raises each year. And they’ve got an aspiring goal this year; $45 MILLON! If we can reach $45M it will put the total amount that the PMC has raised for Dana Farber since 1980 over $500 MILLION! Half a BILLION dollars in 35 years is pretty amazing and it makes this event the biggest athletic fundraiser in the country!
Thank you again for your generous support!
