Okay, okay...it wasn't really that much of an adventure, more like a nice get-away. We certainly weren't "roughing it" by any means! In any event...family vacation, here we come!
But before we get to the camping, let's start off with our first stop of the trip, the Strasburg Railroad, just outside of Lancaster. There was a big Thomas the train event going on so we decided to check that out before heading to the campground.
As with nearly everything, J was a bit skittish at first, but after playing on a toy train for a while she warmed up to the idea of taking a ride on the big train.
Thar she blows!
Enjoying the view and the breeze....
Turns out they liked it so much that they even wanted to ride the other train!
but first the girls had to get inked up!
Back to the rails we went....
I call this the "Amish traffic jam" when the train rolls through. Horse and buggies backed up as far as the eye can see!
After riding some trains we walked across the street to check out the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania....a place my grandfather would have LOVED! You name a type of train, they have it here. We only explored the ones inside...never mind the entire yard they have outside!
Soon enough it was time to head out and get over to the campground!
Directly across from our site was this great playground for the girls...
And a little bounce house and this awesome air-pillow-jumpy thing. So much fun!
We were also close to the activity center. This place is like a cruise ship...activities every single hour. Ceramics, t-shirt paining, panning for gems, bingo, cartoon, etc. Perfect stuff for the kiddos...
Of course the highlight of the place is the water park and pools.
And this is what it looks like when that water tower lets loose on you!
J pretty much taught herself to swim with these water wings...oh, and she now jumps off the side of the pool into our arms. Pretty crazy stuff!
Even a splash pad for the very little ones...
Family photo going down the slide...
Someone loved napping by the pool each day!
How cute are these two with Yogi right outside the Ranger Station?
More action from the campsite. Burgers, dogs, campfires, smores, the whole 9 yards!
I got in a great ride one morning through the hilly farm country...good stuff as the sun came up!
With "camping" wrapped up on Thursday we decided to get a hotel room outside of Harrisburg for the night and then head over to Hershey on Friday.
Lunch Thursday afternoon at the Lancaster Brewing Company...sooo tasty!
Followed by a buggy ride in Amish country...
The girls enjoyed their first hotel stay!
Friday morning it was the chocolate tour and then the zoo before heading for home...
off to the zoo after lunch...
Next time we'll hit the big amusement park...a bit too young this time around!
So there you have it...a great 5 nights away. It was nice to come back and still have the weekend to relax a bit more!
I've got some great GoPro footage from the pool that I need to get compiled at some point. Of course I'll post it here when I do.
You all have any exciting summer vacation plans?
Next up for Kelly and I is a 10 year anniversary trip...just the two of us in Seattle this coming September. Recommendations?
